Our morning conversations punctuate and animate the vast majority of our breakfasts.
Often following a brief news flash broadcast by one of the French national radio stations that I force myself to tune into because she likes to listen to it and then uses it for the french lessons she teaches to her Baden students, these conversations have the charm of embroidery.
Based on the morning aptitude of our imaginations, still untouched by the worries of the dawning day, these discussions develop—sometimes excessively—the sensations left by a word, a sentence, or a journalistic remark. They blend our considerations on the news heard with the analysis of those considerations. They even sometimes end up in the creation of new concepts or in a masterful statement on the internal logic of the subject treated that morning.
Well, the other day, we were talking about the relativity of points of view and judgments. And that is how, step by step, from details added by successive touches to superimposed refinements, I came to compare our psyches (mine, hers, everyone's) to assemblies of boxes: more or less large, depending on their capacity to encompass the volume of the others; more or less tolerant, depending on the number of openings in their walls.
These little windows ultimately signal the ability to let oneself be penetrated by the ideas put forward by others. All this to say that relativity does not only concern specialists in a famous physical theory.
Our ability to know how to position our beliefs and convictions in relation to those of others, our acceptance of differences, and our capacity to agree to discuss them without getting angry constitute the foundations of constructive attitudes that facilitate "living together" and the effective application of the principles of relativity.
"Opinions always depend on the point of view adopted by those who express them, but there are tools making it down to connect these points of view and thus understand where apparent differences come from." These are what physicists call transformation formulas.
I collectively wish for us to always find the formulas that help provide the cement necessary for French society.
